Gingerbread House-Building Time!
Houseplans.com staffer and architecture graduate Monika Strunk developed this gingerbread house from our Signature Plan 479-1 by architect Peter Brachvogel and Stella Carosso. You can build it too, following these plans and instructions. See Monika's tips at the end.
Monika's Tips
-- The gingerbread house is drawn at 1/4"= 1'0" scale, which in real life scale will yield a 0.25" gingerbread wall. (Keeping the gingerbread thickness consistent while rolling out the dough was the biggest challenge for me).

-- The gingerbread house is drawn at 1/4"= 1'0" scale, which in real life scale will yield a 0.25" gingerbread wall. (Keeping the gingerbread thickness consistent while rolling out the dough was the biggest challenge for me).
-- Due to time constraints and lack of proper baking tools, I chose to buy a pre-made frosting that came with two different decorating tips (star shaped and basic).
-- The building took apporximately 2.5 hours to assemble and decorate. The majority of the time was spent cutting and baking.
-- This gingerbread house used about 1.5 batches of the gingerbread dough -- the recipe can be found here: http://www.marthastewart.com/339021/molasses-gingerbread-cookie-dough
