Tiny House Lessons from Marfa, Texas
Vintage trailers in this art mecca will draw out the photographe
Marfa, Texas is a chic art town popularized by minimalist sculptor Donald Judd and located in the high plains desert of the western part of the state. It's the kind of Texas you see in old western films -- but now filled with art exhibitions, eclectic dining spots that are a foodie's dream, dive bars, along with wide open Texas skies.

Thinking about living the "Tiny House Life"? Before actually building a tiny house, you could experience the art of simple living in one of the renovated vintage trailers at El Cosmico's, a cool hotel and campground in Marfa. The trailers pictured are anywhere from 24 feet to 34 feet long. They feature queen sized beds that are built in to the trailers. The beds have built-in shelving around them for convenience, so who needs room for a nightstand when you get built-ins?

The larger trailers offer a built-in sitting area that is extremely comfortable. Both trailers have enough space for a small table and chairs off the kitchen. The kitchen offers counter space, and hidden compartments for dishes, etc.

A large front deck is built on to each trailer and provides outdoor-living and entertaining space with modern benches, and

dining areas. A small bathroom is available in both trailers, but the best parts are the outdoor showers, one of which is shown to the left of the deck in the photo below.

There is nothing more peaceful than a shower under those big West Texas stars!

If far West Texas is too long a trek, bring the desert to you and browse our modern tiny-home designs. These are not trailers but real houses with the getaway vibe!

For example, Plan 484-5, includes 2 bedrooms and 2 baths and a relatively spacious kitchen-living area,

which opens to the central "Chill Deck." You could add an outdoor shower at one end!

Two bedroom 2 bath Plan 924-3 also includes a large deck, but this time it's the wrap-around kind, so every

major room opens to it for easy indoor-outdoor living. For even smaller dwelling units consider these one-bedroom designs,

which pack a lot of built-ins into around 300 square feet. Clockwise from top left: Plan 914-2; Plan 897-1Plan 549-20; Plan 917-11; and Plan 549-11.
