At the recent PCBC (Pacific Coast Builders Conference), the former editor of Builder magazine talked about the rising interest in modern home design -- with open plan interiors and simple contemporary exteriors. We are seeing evidence of this development in our latest plans, like this one -- Plan 132-226 (exterior shown above).
It offers 4 bedrooms, 3 baths on two levels. The great room, master suite, and guest suite are on the upper level. The great room is L-shaped, with living areas opposite the kitchen,
and a patio or living porch at one end, facing the street.
The lower level includes two more bedrooms plus an exercise room, a laundry, and a spacious bonus room that can function as a play space or bunk room. The two bedrooms open to a covered terrace.
In this example, the house is sited on a slight rise -- the lower level is against the hill with one side open, becoming what is called a day-lit basement.
