This is our most popular house style! Farmhouses are known for gable roofs, large or wraparound front porches, and a warm sense of welcome. Modern farmhouse designs create ultimate curb appeal by blending rustic charm with contemporary accents, like vertical siding, clean lines, and metal roofs.

Barndominium-style homes look like barns! They're rustic, modern, popular, and typically showcase extra-large garages (or shops). Wraparound porches are also common in these contemporary house designs as they off-set the look of the extra-large garage, making the house feel more like a home.

Modern-style homes often exude cool and bold curb appeal by featuring flat or slanted (shed) roofs and a monochrome color scheme. Modern-style homes also typically showcase large windows and spacious outdoor living areas, creating seamless indoor/outdoor flow.

You'll find many modern-style homes within the contemporary collection, but a contemporary house can be anything that's popular today. Look for open-concept interior designs, clean lines, metal roofs, decked-out, main-level primary suites, and more. Contemporary homes will also sometimes blend different styles together, like modern architecture with Craftsman accents.

Want to keep the number of stairs in your life to a minimum? A ranch home is probably your best bet. While ranch-style designs may feature basements or optional upstairs bonus rooms, the key components of the home (i.e. kitchen, living room, and bedrooms) always live on one story. This can make aging in place easier and safer. Ranch-style homes also typically feature wide footprints, which can work well if you're building on a large lot. Having said that, Houseplans offers many ranch-style plans that are 40' wide or less.

Influenced heavily by the English Arts and Crafts movement, Craftsman-style house designs exude organic, woodsy curb appeal by showcasing natural materials, like wood, brick, or stone. Look for wide front porches with tapered columns, exposed rafters, and meticulous details inside and out.

Bungalows are a specific type of Craftsman-style homes, and like Craftsman homes, they tend to offer wide front porches with tapered columns, natural materials, and meticulous details. Bungalows tend to be small, compact, and narrow, which can be beneficial if you're building on a modest lot.

You'll find a variety of house designs within our Traditional collection, including colonial layouts, classical plans, and country blueprints. You'll also find designs in this category that mix a variety of styles together, like European, Craftsman, and cottage. Traditional-style homes are more likely to feature closed floor plans and upstairs primary suites. Having said that, we offer many plans that blend traditional and contemporary details, like a colonial-style home with a modern open floor plan.
