• What is a Barndominium?
  Barndominium style is exploding in popularity. Barndominium plans create homes that offer the look and feel of a barn, blending rustic country charm with modern innovation. Some designs exude a warm, rustic Craftsman feel, while others project a more modern vibe, with minimal ornamentation, clean vertical lines, and/or solid black or gray exterior colors. The term barndominium is often used to describe a metal building structure, but barndominium floor plans can offer either metal or wood framing. • Cool Characteristics of Barndominium Plans
  • Huge garages/workshops are the #1 feature of a barndo plan. Some designs even feature an RV bay (see our collection of house plans with RV garages here). If you have multiple vehicles, or simply need a ton of extra unheated storage space, a barndo blueprint might be the best option for you. Fun fact: house plans with shops/big garages even have their own nickname: shouse floor plans (i.e. shop + house).
  • Spacious wraparound porches are another common characteristic of barndominium plans. The wraparound porch acts as a counter balance to offset the presence of the huge garage, making the house look and feel homier and more welcoming, and less like a mechanic’s shop.   • Modern interior design elements can also regularly be found within barndo floor plans. Examples include: open floor plans with kitchen islands and vaulted ceilings, and main-level primary suites.   • Lofts are another design element you’ll find in many barndo floor plans. Lofts are popular for a variety of reasons, depending on who’s living in the house. • What’s a Ranch-Style Barndominium? And Do You Offer Them?
  Yes, we have many! A ranch-style barndominum plan is simply a single-story barndo plan. Single-story designs are often preferred by a variety of homeowners, as they don’t require many steps, making everyday living that much more convenient, especially as we age. We count stories as levels above grade, so some ranch-style barndominium plans may feature a basement or walkout basement, or have one or both available as an option. As you purchase your plan, you can choose which foundation you would like, and if you don’t see the option you require, simply call us, or submit a customization request (just click the button that says Modify This Plan on the plan detail page).
• What’s the Average Size of a Barndominium Plan?
  Barndominium house plans can be any square footage. On Houseplans.com you’ll find tiny, super-cute barndo plans under 1,000 sq. ft., small barndo designs under 2,000 sq. ft., large barndo layouts that aim to impress, and everything in between. Take note: for house plans, the total square footage presented is the total heated square footage. Therefore, if the plan features a huge garage/shop, the garage/shop will not be included. You can check the size of the garage/shop on the product detail page.
